Springtime Stripes: Navy and Cream

by Heather

After a perfect spring weekend of outdoor dining, motorcycling, shopping, pedicure/massage, and wine (not necessarily in that order), it's time to get ready for the work week. I'm lucky in that I can wear jeans to work. It can't be too casual a look (no t-shirts and flip-flops), but it does make it easier to put together a look that will take me from work to more casual (and dare I say, fun) events. I'm stopping at the Scottsdale Quarter (open-air center of shops and restaurants -- Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, Sephora, Calypso St. Barth, Eddie V's,  Brio, etc.) on the way home tomorrow and this outfit will work from morning to evening. The day will start out cool but by the afternoon temps will be in the high 70s or low 80s. Kind of perfect for shopping and dining outdoors! Stripes are in this season, but if you're like me, they've never gone out of style in your clothing choices.

Navy and cream jacket: Nordstrom;  cream tank: Chico's Black Label; navy and cream belt: The Limited; navy denim jeans: Chico's
Anchor necklace is from a small beach shop in San Diego
Easy zip up front with two zippered patch pockets
Surprisingly comfortable navy and tan wedges: Target; my favorite style of Michael Kors' purses: the Hamilton in navy and oyster with silver hardware; creamy shell and sterling bracelet from local designer
One of my favorite bracelets from a small jeweler in Boston: sterling and titanium on cream cord; shell and sterling ring from local designer

If the weather here continues to be warm and sunny, I may need to move the spring and summer clothes out of the chests and downstairs closets and bring them upstairs. I was hoping to wait until next week for the move, but I may be pushed to do it sooner. Do any of you move clothes between closets for each season? In my next life, I will have one big walk-in closet! Perhaps in the meantime I should weed out the clothes until all seasons fit into the upstairs closet? As I move the clothes around, I'll take a look and see if any of them need to go into the donate pile. I haven't tried consignment shops yet, but I'm thinking about it. Have any of you done that with your clothes? Sheila's mom is going to have a swap party sometime later this month. We've done that once before and it was a very satisfying way to get rid of clothes and home accessories and also pick up some lovely new items. Any unwanted merchandise was then donated to a charity.  Everybody wins!

Have a wonderful week!

Love,
Heather

  3. Such a great outfit! I love that jacket.
I bought a very similar bracelet in Italy last spring (Portovenere, to be exact).
    Have fun shopping!

    1. Hi Adrienne,
Thank you. There's a little tag on the bracelet but my old eyes can't make out what it says. Wonder if the bracelet was made in Italy? I'm sure the jeweler told me the story, but I can't remember it :(

    1. Hi Annette,
Thank you! My lips and nails are pretty much always orange throughout spring and summer (and sometimes into fall) -- my favorite color.

  5. Super cute! The jacket is my favorite. You are good at accessorizing! The purse looks perfect with it too. I just bought a navy spring jacket and a nautical inspired navy and cream purse. I think the look is in!

    1. Thanks, Liz. Can't wait to see your jacket and purse. Michael Kors has a navy and white striped purse this spring that has my name on it! I better get one before they're sold out. I need a new white purse, though, too. I may have to choose between the two :(

  6. I love your outfit. Don't you love Chico's!? I paid a visit there yesterday and started my spring wardrobe. Still a little cool in Boston to break out the lighter weight clothes so no closet change yet. It doesn't mean I can't buy new pieces though.

    1. Hello Unknown (leave your name next time, okay?),
Love Chico's! What did you get? I haven't stopped in for a few weeks now so I'm pretty sure I'm out of touch with their new merchandise. Maybe I can shop vicariously through you!?

    2. I picked up a pair of the slimming ankle pants in the tan color and a scarf. If I had more time I could have gotten more. I wanted to use my 50% off coupon.

Love this blog by the way,

    1. Hi Patti,
Thanks for providing us a place to link up.
This necklace is one of my favorites and I thought I had lost it for several months. Discovered it with the collection of jewelry that was put away (that's my first step before donating it or placing it in the play jewelry for the granddaughter) -- what was I thinking!?

  8. Nice outfit - everything goes perfectly together from the navy stripes and anchor necklace to the shoes and bag! You always look good in neutrals. I love your coral lipstick, and coral with navy is such a great combination.

I rotate seasonal clothes just to have hanger space. The out-of-season ones go into plastic zipper storage bags (that blankets came in). I keep a few sleeveless tops out for layering, but it's still too early for me to break out the shorts here in western Oregon - frost this morning!

    1. Hi Val,
What a great idea to re-use the blanket bags for storage! Why didn't I think of that? We have some colder and wetter weather moving in for the coming weekend so I'm holding off on the clothes move now until sometime late next week. Thanks for the lovely compliments!

  9. Blue and white has to be one of my all time favourites combos, and you make it look fresh and new.

I too have to rotate seasonal clothing. I just don't have enough closet space. I part of a spare closet to switch out my outerwear, but my clothing goes into storage bins. And then, of course, I have to launder everything that comes out...but I'm usually so excited to see my old friends, that I don't complain about that step.

    1. Thanks, Laura. What's really funny is that I tried pairing it with a bright coral top, just like you've shown it! It will definitely be a back-up look. I also tried it with a navy and white polka dot blouse that looked pretty good, too.
I ordered the jacket online without seeing it in person and was pleasantly surprised. It's been waiting in my closet for several weeks while I got in a little more wear of the winter clothes.
