or "Orange You Glad It's Raining?"
By Heather
The sun is shining today (Sunday) but the forecast for tomorrow (Monday) is rain. Monday AND rain? That could be depressing, so let's not exacerbate the situation by dressing in gloomy colors. A bright orange trench is perfect for rainy weather! I've mentioned before that orange is my favorite color so when I saw this coat at Banana Republic, it was a no-brainer.
Banana Republic trench coat; BR orange and navy scarf; Chico's dark navy jeans
Kate Spade bangles
Alexis Bittar orange bangle; Michael Kors watch
Alexis Bittar orange bangle; Michael Kors watch
Michael Kors Hamilton purse; Antonio Melani denim and leather wedges
J. Crew navy and white striped cardigan; Chico's white tank
Francesca's Collection earrings and necklace; BCBGMaxAzria orange and gold ring
The last time I bought a trench coat was several years ago. I had been to Los Angeles as a chaperon for a school fashion trip (hard labor but someone has to do it) and we brought the students to Rodeo Drive to peruse the shops there. I didn't usually shop at Juicy Couture (I thought I was a tad too old for their line) but it's a must-see for the teens. To my surprise, I found the most amazing black trench there that fit like a dream (I've since become a big fan of their clothing and accessories). The price tag was beyond my reach, however. Returning home, I continued to lust after that coat. Several weeks later, Nordstrom's had the same item on sale. Glad I waited! The coat is still in my closet and probably will be for years --it's a classic. But a dark color on a dark day is not always a great mood elevator. Yes, I know I can use bright pops of color to liven it up, but please, I'm trying to rationalize my need for a new coat so just work with me, okay?
Hope those of you in the Northeast are digging yourselves out of the snow drifts. We can't complain too much here because of a little rain, right?
Love,
Heather
Here's the Juicy Couture trench with added color from a J Crew Edie purse, yellow Chico's scarf, Echo polka dot umbrella, and Loft straw fedora. Just had to use my new vintage-looking dress form from Home Goods. I kind of like dressing it rather than me -- it's in better shape :)

You are gorgeous in orange, Heather! I'd like the yellow purse with your new jacket too : > Thanks for linking up and have a wonderful week ahead.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Patti. Have a great week, too!

If I wasn't a fan of bright color before, I would have to be now after seeing your beautiful outfits!! I love the way you use classic pieces that are updated in such gorgeous colors.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jean. Bright colors make me happy, but I'm a real fan of neutrals, which is hard to tell in my latest post!

I almost bought an orange coat a few months ago, but I got red instead. You're right, it's nice to have a bright coat on a dull day. The orange looks great on you, and I love all your orange accessories!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Val. I bet you look fantastic in your red coat!
ReplyDeleteHeather
Your orange coat is perfect! It's tailored but fun at the same time. Love all the accessories too. It took me awhile to come around to wearing orange but now I love it. It feels happy.
ReplyDeleteOrange IS a happy color! Thanks for the lovely remarks.

This is too funny. I was just at the mall this past weekend looking at that same coat. I thought it was so pretty and I loved the color.
ReplyDeleteIt does kind of grab your attention, doesn't it? Saw your great purchases from Target so I'm heading there in the very near future.
DeleteThanks.
Heather
yes, please, I would love an orange trench. I really like both of your stylings but for me, brighter is so much better! thanks for the great ideas. I'm off to the thrift store.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Good luck in your hunt for bright items!

Not many people can pull of orange as well as you do!
ReplyDeleteLove it with the cognac and navy! You look ready for the rain.
Thank you, Adrienne. It rained today and it worked well. Of course, I did have an umbrella with me, too. :)

I think you look far too chic and elegantly accessorized for any rain to fall on you. This is just a beautiful outfit.
ReplyDeleteDebbie, you're just too nice. Thank you!

You look fabulous in orange! I wish I'd seen this colorful inspiration earlier today. It rained here also, and so I immediately dressed in black and grey!
ReplyDeleteThese colors are gorgeous and you are inspiring me to go root around in my closet for something bright and cheerful for tomorrow. Why? More rain coming!
Thanks for the inspiration. I'm following you now!
Thank you, Diane! I think we're done with rain here for the week. The temps are going to remain cool until the weekend however; then we'll be back in the sunshine and 70s. I just found a very fun orange and white polka dot umbrella at Target this afternoon if you need something bright :)

I have to laugh Heather, I did orange and navy this week to!! My outfit however, is much more utilitarian and less lovely than yours is. I think this is the third time we have done colors similar to one another in the same link. Cool Phoenicians unite! Lol.
ReplyDeleteXo,
Alyssa
We definitely are coordinating our outfits through mental telepathy. Must be something to do with our strange weather? Love your orange and navy, too!

Really, Heather, a spectacular outfit. In the best way! Great handling of a tricky color combo that can go so wrong, so fast. Lovely.
DeleteThank you, Jan. I really like navy and orange together, but I've seen orange with a number of other colors that work well, too.
DeleteHeather

Thank you, Sabine. It's never too late to leave such a nice compliment :)

This is a great color for you! I like the idea of matching a bright hat and computer bag for spring.
ReplyDeleteI like that idea, too. My only computer bag is a zebra print with a lime green lining. Wouldn't be a great combo with the orange but it's a good excuse to go shopping!
ReplyDeleteHeather
I love this entire outfit! The wedges are fabulous. I need this whole ensemble for my next trip to my alma mater...WAR EAGLE! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you. Wish my alma maters had orange and navy as their colors. My BS was from the University of MN (maroon and gold) and my Master's was from ASU (also maroon and gold). And I don't even like maroon! My high school did a better job: navy and gold.
ReplyDeleteHeather
Cute outfit!
ReplyDeleteYou should do a home decoration tour! Looks like you decorate nice!
